Serving Crewe
Specialist Mohs Surgery for Crewe
Crewe patients are seen by Miss Rakhee Nayar at Circle Cheshire Clinic in Wincham, near Northwich, around thirty minutes north through the Cheshire countryside.
She is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Mohs surgeon, one of fewer than 10 women in the UK dual-trained in both plastic surgery and Mohs micrographic surgery. For a facial skin cancer, that means removal and reconstruction by a single consultant, usually in one visit.
Removal and repair together
Mohs Surgery for Crewe Patients
Mohs micrographic surgery removes a skin cancer in thin layers, checking each one under the microscope while you wait. Surgery stops only when the margins are confirmed clear.
It is used for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, and it removes as little healthy tissue as possible, which matters most on the nose, eyelid, lip and ear.
Once the margins are clear, the repair begins. Depending on the site and size, that may be a direct closure, a local flap, a skin graft or, for larger defects of the nose, a forehead flap.
It removes the cancer while keeping as much healthy skin as possible.
Miss Rakhee Nayar removes the cancer layer by layer, checking each one under the microscope while you wait.
Surgery stops only when the margins are confirmed clear, so healthy skin is preserved.
Once the margins are clear, the same consultant repairs the wound, usually in the same visit.

Your visit
Your Visit Step by Step
Consultation, surgery and follow-up all take place at Circle Cheshire Clinic in Wincham. Each step is explained before it happens, so you know what the day involves.
Years of surgical experience
Consultation: the lesion is examined, any biopsy result reviewed, and the plan for removal and repair explained, including what it will cost.
On the day, the area is numbed with local anaesthetic, so you stay awake but should not feel pain.
The visible cancer is removed with a thin layer of tissue, which is mapped and examined in the laboratory on site.
While you wait, each layer is checked under the microscope. Further tissue is taken only where cancer remains.
Once the margins are clear, the wound is repaired, usually in the same visit, and follow-up is arranged at the clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions
We're Always Here to Help You
I have been referred to Leighton Hospital. Should I still look at private surgery?
That is your decision, and seeking a private opinion does not affect your NHS care. Some patients want to be seen sooner; others want the repair carried out by the same surgeon who removes the cancer.
What happens if more than one operation is needed?
Some larger reconstructions, such as a forehead flap, are deliberately staged over a few weeks. If that applies to you, it will be explained in full before you decide anything.
Do I need a referral?
Not always for a private consultation, though insurers usually ask for a GP referral. Bring any letters or biopsy results you already have.
Will I be awake for the surgery?
Yes. Mohs surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you stay awake and can talk to the team throughout. It also avoids the need for a general anaesthetic.
How long will I be at the clinic?
Plan for at least half a day. Mohs surgery involves waiting between stages while the tissue is processed and examined, and the number of stages depends on what the microscope shows.
Will it leave a scar?
All surgery leaves a scar. Miss Nayar’s plastic surgery training shapes the repair: scars are placed in natural creases and along tension lines wherever possible, so they settle well over time.
