Mohs surgery for Macclesfield patients
Mohs micrographic surgery removes the tumour in thin layers, checking each under the microscope before deciding whether more needs to go. Nothing is guessed at and nothing extra is taken. It gives the highest cure rates available for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, and it preserves the greatest amount of healthy skin — which is what makes the reconstruction better.

Common questions
My GP has referred me to Macclesfield District General. Should I still consider private surgery? That is entirely your decision. Some patients want to be seen sooner; others want a specific surgical approach or a second opinion on the plan. Both are reasonable and neither affects your NHS care.
Do I have to travel for every appointment? Consultation, surgery and follow-up all take place at the Northwich clinic. An e-consultation can often be used as a first step before you travel at all.
What if it turns out not to be cancer? That is a common and welcome outcome. If the lesion is benign, you will be told plainly and given the option of removal for comfort or appearance, or of leaving it alone.
