Warrington sits about twenty minutes from Circle Cheshire Clinic at Wincham, near Northwich, where Miss Rakhee Nayar holds her main private practice. For a skin cancer on the face, the dual training is the point. The cancer is removed under the microscope and the area reconstructed by the same consultant, usually in a single visit, rather than being passed to a second surgeon at a later date.
Mohs surgery for Warrington patients
Mohs micrographic surgery takes the cancer out in thin layers, mapping and examining each one under the microscope before deciding whether more needs to come out. It produces the highest cure rates for basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma while removing the least healthy tissue, which is why it is the standard of care for cancers on the nose, eyelid, lip and ear.
Once the margins are clear, the repair begins. Depending on the site and size that may be a direct closure, a local flap, a skin graft, or for larger nasal defects a forehead flap.

The A559 runs almost directly from south Warrington to the clinic door, which makes it an unusually straightforward journey with no motorway needed. Alternatively the M56 at junction 10 brings you onto the A559 from the north.

Alongside skin cancer work, Miss Nayar removes benign lesions: moles, cysts, skin tags, lipomas and lesions on the lip. Anything removed goes for analysis.
