Mohs micrographic surgery removes a tumour in thin layers, with each layer mapped and examined under the microscope before the next decision is made. It achieves the highest cure rates for basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma and removes the least healthy tissue, which is why it is the technique of choice on the central face.
The repair that follows might be a direct closure, a local flap or a skin graft, chosen for the site and the size of the defect.

Common questions
Is there a Stockport clinic? No. All consultations and surgery are at Circle Cheshire in Northwich.
How long is a Mohs appointment? Allow at least half a day. The number of stages depends on what the microscope shows, so it cannot be predicted in advance. Bring something to occupy the waiting periods.
Can someone come with me? Yes. They cannot enter the sterile surgical room, but having someone in the waiting area during the laboratory stages is welcome and many patients find it reassuring.
