Wilmslow is well served for cosmetic dermatology and skin clinics. It is much less well served for the one thing that matters when a lesion turns out to be a skin cancer on the face: a surgeon who can both remove it under the microscope and rebuild the area afterwards.

Miss Rakhee Nayar is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Consultant Mohs Surgeon, one of fewer than ten women in the UK dual-trained in both. She sees Wilmslow patients at Circle Cheshire Clinic in Wincham, near Northwich, around twenty minutes away.

A dermatologist or a surgeon?

It is a fair question, and the honest answer is that you may need both. A dermatologist diagnoses skin disease and will biopsy a suspicious lesion. If the result comes back as a basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma on the face, the next question is surgical: how it is removed, and how the area is repaired.

Miss Nayar is a surgeon, on the GMC specialist register for Plastic Surgery. She is not a dermatologist and does not treat acne, eczema or rosacea. What she does is remove skin cancers by Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstruct the face afterwards. If you already have a diagnosis and need it dealt with well, that is the relevant expertise.

Around twenty to twenty-five minutes depending on traffic through Chelford.

Mole, cyst and skin lesion removal

Miss Nayar removes benign lesions as well as cancers: moles, cysts, skin tags, lipomas, lip lesions and split earlobes. Everything removed is sent for analysis. The scar is planned as carefully as the excision, which is the practical benefit of having a plastic surgeon do it. See skin lesion removal.

Why Wilmslow patients choose her

Common questions

I have a biopsy result from a Wilmslow clinic. Can she take it from there? Yes. Bring the histology report and any letters to your consultation and they will be reviewed at the appointment.

Can I get a second opinion? Miss Nayar regularly provides second opinions on complex facial skin cancer cases, including where surgery has already been recommended elsewhere.

How visible will the scar be? Every operation leaves a mark. The aim is to place it inside a natural line or crease so it reads as part of the face rather than as a scar. What that looks like depends on site and size, and will be discussed frankly before you decide.
